BoxingScene.com recently caught up with Mayweather Promotions' CEO Leonard Ellerbe who is getting ready for his company's November 18th show that takes place at The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Once beaten Julian Williams faces former world champion and Mayweather Promotions own Ishe Smith in the main event of a Bounce TV telecast. Lionel Thompson takes on Earl Newman in the co-feature bout.
The card will be the seventh of the year in Las Vegas for the Vegas based promotional outfit that was founded by Floyd Mayweather. They promote shows throughout the country on a regular basis but Ellerbe said that they are committed to doing shows in Sin City.
"We love Las Vegas. We love doing shows in Las Vegas and we also like to take our show on the road. We have done shows in other cities throughout the year but we will continue to build our young fighters here in Las Vegas along with some of the other top cities that are putting on boxing events," Ellerbe stated.
Mayweather Promotions' ever expanding stable also includes two-division world champion Badou Jack who stopped former champion Nathan Cleverly in 5 rounds in August on the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor undercard. With the win he captured the WBA light heavyweight title and almost immediately dropped it, stating that he had plans for an even bigger fight.
Ellerbe wouldn't reveal who Jack's next opponent will be but Jack himself has told BoxingScene.com on various occasions that he wants to face WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and there are rumors that he may get his wish in January.
What Ellerbe did say is that we can expect to see Jack, who has also defeated the likes of Anthony Dirrell, George Groves, Lucian Bute and battled James DeGale to a draw, in a very big fight in early 2018.
"We are very excited about what Badou Jack has accomplished in his career and the sky is the limit. He has definitely proven that he is one of the top fighters in the world and in 2018 he is definitely going to make a major statement and be one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world. We are definitely looking for him to come back in the first quarter of the year and we have something major that we are working on. Just like with anything, it is all about timing and we will see how this plays on out," Ellerbe told BoxingScene.com.
