Elite Boxing Insists Khurtsidze Still Under Contract

By Alexey Sukachev

Former IBO middleweight champion Avtandil Khurtsidze (28-2-2, 17 KOs), aged 35, came back to the ring following two and a half years off the ring and smashed American Allen Conyers (12-10, 9 KOs) within 90 seconds. After the fight, Khurtsidze stated he has nothing to do with the Kiev-based Ukrainian team Elite Boxing Promotions. Not surprisingly, the Ukrainian party sees the whole situation a little bit different, which is reflected in their press release, received by the BoxingScene.

We would like to inform worldwide media, world boxing organizations, promotional companies, boxing managers, promoters about a problem involving Elite Boxing Promotion and DiBella Entertainment promoted by Mr. Lou DiBella.

Today, an event is scheduled in BB King Blues Club & Grill, New York, USA promoted by DiBella Entertainment where a boxer Avtandil “Tornado” Khurtsidze will have an 8-round fight vs. Allen Conyers.

Avtandil Khurtsidze has signed the contract with Elite Boxing Promotion which is valid until May 2015. This contract is still valid and effective and, in accordance with its terms, Elite Boxing Promotion has the exclusive right to act on behalf of Avtandil Khurtsidze, sign the contracts, arrange the boxing fights and get the relevant purses during the term of the Contract.

Elite Boxing Promotion has never granted the right on this fight to Avtandil Khurtsidze or DiBella Entertainment. We informed DiBella Entertainment about the Contact, exclusivity and the whole situation.

However, DiBella Entertainment had completely ignored the request of Elite Boxing Promotion.

Elite Boxing Promotion engaged one of the leading international law firms to evaluate the situation who confirmed there is a clear breach of contract. Elite Boxing Promotion reserves all its rights to bring claim against Avtandil Khurtsidze or DiBella Entertainment.
