CANCUN, QR. - Mexican flyweight Edgar Sosa (45-7, 27KOs) is now the mandatory challenger to the WBC champion Sonny Boy Jaro. Last October, Sosa flew over to Thailand and lost a twelve round decision to then champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam. The champion was then battered and knocked out in six rounds by Jaro (34-10-5, 24KOs) in March.
Sosa has now earned another shot at the title, when he defeated countryman Wilbert Uicab in a final WBC eliminator on Saturday night at the Grand Oasis Arena in Cancun. He hopes to secure a shot at Jaro in the same familiar location.
"Cancun is my ideal location. Cancun is where I made the first of my 11 defenses as the world flyweight champion, where I beat Argentina's Luis Lazarte. I would hope that when when I fight for the WBC flyweight championship against Filipino Sonny Boy Jaro, it will also happen here in Cancun," Sosa said
