Eddie Hearn is trying to secure the perfect fight for Carl Froch, but he also believes that British boxing is in good hands should “The Cobra” retire later this year. Froch is toying with the idea of fighting middleweight boss Gennady Golovkin, there is also the issue of his WBA mandated fight with Andre Ward as well as his lingering desire to tackle Julio Cesar Chavez in a Las Vegas swansong.
Froch, 33-2 (24), is winding his career down, so he can be selective about his next move. He was on-hand to watch Kell Brook move to 34-0 (23) when stopping mandatory challenger Jo Jo Dan at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena on Saturday night, the Super middleweight champion lauded Brook’s performance, tabbing him to beat Khan should the two meet.
Eddie Hearn, the promoter of both fighters, also believes that Brook’s earning his moniker of “Special” with each passing performance; he told City A.M. that the Sheffield-based boxer will take up Froch’s mantle as the U.K.’s number one fighter when the Nottingham-based 168lber decides to call it quits.
“Kell is the perfect replacement as the star of British boxing—he has the ability to beat the very best,” stated Hearn when appraising Brook’s weekend win.
