LEGENDARY trainer Angelo Dundee believes that David Haye will become one of boxing’s all-time greats.
Dundee, who trained Muhammad Ali, has been giving tips to WBA world heavyweight champion David Haye ahead of his July 2 showdown with Wladimir Klitschko.
Haye has been working out at the Fifth Street Gym in Miami where Dundee trained 15 world champions, including Sugar Ray Leonard and George Foreman.
Veteran Dundee, who will be 90 in August, said: “I saw him when he was training in the Fifth Street Gym and he looked as though he belonged there right away.
“It was the first time I had seen him personally and I have been very impressed with the guy.”
He was so impressed that he said: “David Haye, after he knocks out Wladimir Klitschko, will be in the top 15 all-time heavyweight boxers.
“He really can fight and he knows what he is doing.
“Every era has a different great fighter. David Haye belongs to this era.
“I respect him as a heck of a fighter and I’m looking forward to seeing the fight and him knocking out Klitschko.”
Dundee is convinced that Haye can overcome IBF, IBO and WBO champ Klitschko in their unification bout in Hamburg.
He added: “In my book, he can beat Wladimir Klitschko. I like the way he handles himself and I like the people around him.”
Dundee, speaking on Radio 5 live’s Sportsweek, added: “I love everything about him.
“He can box, he can move and is a well-conditioned kid.
“He feels at home in the Fifth Street Gym. That’s important. You need to blend in. David has done that just like Muhammad Ali did when he first came to that gym.”
