Russian cruiserweight contender Grigory Drozd (35-1, 25KOs) is still hoping to finalize a deal to face undefeated Nigerian puncher Lateef Kayode (18-0-1, 14KOs) for the vacant IBO championship in the fall. Drozd's manager, Vladimir Hryunov, is attempting to reach an agreement with Kayode's promoter Gary Shaw.
"I want the title fight to happen as soon as possible. [Kayode] is tall, physically strong, and throws very hard punches. Fighting with this boxer will not be easy, but these are the kind of fights that I want now," Drozd said.
Another possible option for Drozd is former champion Firat Arslan, but he doesn't expect that match to happen this year - and he prefers to have a title fight first.
"I think our fight will take place sooner or later. According to Vladimir, Firat is in very good shape and ready to begin negotiations on this fight. But again, for me, it is a very important to get the opportunity to fight for the title," Drozd said.
