Donnie Nietes: record, next fight and profile →
MANILA, Philippines -- Another All-Filipino battle for a world title is on the horizon as the respective camps of former 3-division world champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes (41-1-4, 23 KO's) of Bacolod, Negros Occidental, and hard-hitting "Mighty" Aston Palicte (24-2, 20 KO's) of Bago City (also in Negros Occidental) are in deep negotiations for their clash for the vacant WBO Super Flyweight World belt.
McWilliams Arroyo is waiting for the World Boxing Council (WBC) to honor his word and get the opportunity to challenge Srisaket Sor Rungvisai for the world super flyweight championship. When Arroyo faced the Carlos Cuadras, the World Boxing Council had stated that the winner of the bout would capture the vacant WBC silver championship and would also become the mandatory challenger for the title fight between Juan Francisco "El Gallo" Estrada and Sor Rungvisai, who came away with the victory.
Donnie Nietes (41-1-4, 23 KOs) has officially announced that he's vacating the IBF flyweight title and plans to make a full move to the super flyweight division. Nietes, who captured world titles at minimumweight, junior flyweight and flyweight, picked up the IBF title back in February with a seventh round knockout of Juan Carlos Reveco at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
Call him a late bloomer or what but three-division world champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes has the feeling of a 24-year-old boxer ready to take on all comers in the quickest possible time. Indeed, it took some time, more than a decade to be exact, before the 35-year-old Nietes could finally earn the adulation of boxing fans and pundits, thanks to a highly successful boxing program series “Pinoy Pride” that was painstakingly produced by his handlers and their TV network partner ABS-CBN.
IBF flyweight world champion Donnie Nietes (41-1-4, 23 KOs) is prepared to head up to the super flyweight division to pursue the bigger names in that weight class. Nietes made his HBO debut last month, as part of the Superfly 2 card in Los Angeles, and stopped Juan Carlos Reveco. Since heading up to 112, Nietes has dominated Reveco of Argentina, Edgar Sosa of Mexico and Komgrich Nantapech of Thailand.
The second installment of “SuperFly” drew lower ratings than HBO’s first telecast, but produced similar ratings to the premium cable network’s first boxing offering of 2018. According to ratings released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research, HBO’s main event Saturday night between Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Juan Francisco Estrada drew a peak audience of 753,000. Sor Rungvisai-Estrada averaged 639,000 viewers.
Srisaket Sor Rungvisai: If Juan Francisco Estrada can’t outbox Sor Rungvisai, who can? Naoya Inoue? Nobody? Sor Rungvisai, coming off a one-punch knockout of Roman Gonzalez, surprised many in the boxing world by outpointing a better pure boxer in Estrada on Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

INGLEWOOD - Donnie Nietes made easy work of mandatory challenger Juan Carlos Reveco, stopping him in the seventh round, successfully defending his IBF flyweight title. It was all Nietes from the opening bell, outboxing the Argentine fighter by throwing and landing combinations to the head and body.
The Forum, Inglewood, California - IBF flyweight champion Donnie Nietes (41-1-4, 23 KOs) retained his title with a seventh round knockout of former beltholder Juan Carlos Reveco (39-4, 19 KOs). A very tactical start, which saw Nietes control the action at a measured pace. Reveco was unable to do much in rounds two or three, as Nietes continued to outbox him with ease and blocked most of the shots that came his way.
