University of St. La Salle Gymnasium in Bacolod City, Philippines - Donnie Nietes (29-1-3, 16 KOs) managed to hold off a late rally from Ramon Garcia (16-3-1, 9 KOs) to win a twelve round unanimous decision to capture the WBO junior flyweight crown. The scores were 117-111, 118-110 and 115-113.

Nietes was in charge early on and controlled most of the action with his combination of hard punching and a fast boxing pace. In the later round, Nietes appeared to get a little tired and Garcia started to come on. The fight was closer than two of the cards would indidate, but BoxingScene.com's very own Danrex Tapdasan had the scored of 115-113, which is more realistic. Nietes, who previously held the WBO strawweight title, becomes a two division champion.
