BoxingScene.com has been advised that the World Boxing Council has set down May 22nd in Mexico City as the mandatory purse bid for the final WBC super bantamweight eliminator between Nonito Donaire (34-3, 22KOs) and Hugo Ruiz (35-2, 31KOs).
Sources in Mexico are indicated that current WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz is potentially going to vacate his title to concentrate on a campaign at featherweight. Santa Cruz made his featherweight debut earlier this month on the Mayweather-Pacquiao undercard, where he won a ten round decision over Jose Cayetano.
Ruiz has won four fights in a row since losing a very close twelve round decision to Koki Kameda in December 2012. His last fight was in November with a first round knockout win in Mexico.
Donaire was knocked out by Nicholas Walters last October, at featherweight. He moved back to super bantamweight and knocked out William Prado in the second round in March.
Donaire has a return date of July 18th in Macau, China.
