On Saturday evening in Corpus Christi, TX, former champion Nonito "Filipino Flash" Donaire will face Vic Darchinyan in a rematch of their 2007 fight that Donaire won with a thrilling one punch knockout.  The 30-year-old Donaire said that he went back to basics in his preparation for this fight.

"We are training hard.  We are trying to go back to who I was, a person who is smart, a person who is fast.  The problem with me was the muscle memory wasn't there anymore when I was throwing combinations I wasn't pulling and only the power was coming out," Donaire told BoxingScene.com shortly after Orlando Salido recaptured the WBO featherweight belt with a knockout victory over Orlando Cruz in Las Vegas.

All signs point toward Salido facing Vasyl Lomachenko on January 25th in New York but Donaire said that he is also interested in facing the Sonora, Mexico native.

"Salido is an incredible fighter.  I have great respect for Salido.  He holds a belt and I would like a shot at it but I have to get past Darchinyan first," Donaire explained.

Donaire finished our conversation by saying that the fans will be in for a treat on Saturday evening and that the old "Filipino Flash" will resurface.

"You guys are going to see something different.  You guys are going to see the power and the speed.  Hopefully you guys are going to enjoy it," said Donaire.
