WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18KOs) is considering a move to super bantamweight. The Filipino boxer is waiting for a finalized opponent for his ring return on May 28 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. As BoxingScene.com had previously reported, the targeted opponent, WBA champion Anselmo Moreno, is looking for a mid-six figure offer to take the fight. If Donaire is unable to secure an opponent at bantamweight, he is willing to take a fight at super bantam.
“I have always made known my intention to unify the bantamweight division,” Donaire told The Manila Times. “But if the bantamweights do not want to fight me, there’s no choice but to go up. However, reaching 130 still a long way to go. I’m taking it step by step. The game plan now is just to be in shape.”
