Don King Goes on a Rant Over Klitschko vs. Peter

by T.K. Stewart

Don King, true to form, had a lot to say yesterday in regards to this weekend's festivities in Germany where he will see his fighter, Samuel Peter, face Vitali Klitschko for the WBC heavyweight title strap.

Asked for his prediction on 'Big Sam's' chances on Saturday night, King was unwavering in his support for Peter.

"I think, in my estimation, in my humble opinion, that Sam Peter will knockout Vitali Klitschko!" boomed King. "And when he knocks out Vitali Klitschko he has to avenge the fight that he lost to Wladimir when he was a rookie.  He went out there and he fought Wladimir a little too early.  So now, he has a chance to redeem that loss after he gets past Vitali because Vitali can punch and Vitali has a lot of heart."

King went on to talk up the fight that will be aired in the United States on Showtime.

"It's gonna' be a great, great fight this weekend," says King.  "Samuel Peter will establish himself as the yet to be named undisputed champion of the world 'cause he's going right after Wladimir when he gets through with his brother.  He just wants to beat the Klitschkos.  He just has the affinity to beat the Klitschkos!"

If Peter, aka The Nigerian Nightmare, does indeed prove victorious on Saturday night King claims that he will lobby hard and try to put together another African extravaganza similar to the Ali vs. Foreman 'Rumble in the Jungle' back in 1974.

The man known as 'the world's greatest promoter' wants the bout to be in Peter's home country of Nigeria with the opponent to be Wladimir Klitschko.  It would be a huge unification bout for the IBF and WBO belts currently held by Wladimir in addition to Peter's WBC title.

King claims that he wants very badly to promote a Samuel Peter fight in Nigeria and that he has already taken several steps in order to eventually make that happen.

"President Yar'Adua of Nigeria has sent a contingent here to Germany and all of the governors and all of them will be here at ringside and hopefully we can put the Wladimir - Sam Peter fight in Nigeria," said King.  "I want to take it back to the continent of Africa once again and return to glory!  It would just be...quite provocative!"

King also wanted it known that he doesn't have much use for the business practices of the Klitschko brothers, especially Vitali.  Over the years, he has attempted a friendly approach in order to find a way into the good graces of the Klitschkos.  However, both brothers have attempted to avoid working with King in the past in regards to various promotions.

"The only thing that Vitali does is take advantage of German promoters like Sauerland and Peter Kohl, you know what I mean?" stated King.  "So other than that, the word loyalty, you can eradicate that from his vocabulary.  But as far as his fighting ability, he's very sinister."
