Upland, California - In just less than one month, undefeated heavyweight prospect Dominic "Trouble" Breazeale (16-0, 14 KO's) returns to the ring in an anticipated action packed bout against "Prince" Charles Martin (22-0-1, 20 KO's). The bout between the two undefeated heavyweights will be featured as the co-main event for the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series live telecast on December 12th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Breazeale, who has already been featured twice this year on the "PBC on NBC" live telecasts', is making his third appearance on the prime-time network and will be fighting for the fourth time in 2015. The 2012 U.S. Olympian has had a busy year so far, facing tough opposition against the likes of Victor Bisbal, Yasmany Consuegra and the crafty veteran Fred Kassi, who has been by far Breazeale's most difficult opponent to date.
Although Breazeale defeated Kassi by unanimous decision, he was not satisfied with his performance and has since made a significant change in his corner as he is now under the tutelage of veteran trainer Manny Robles. Ironically, this is not Breazeale's first pairing with Robles as Robles worked with Breazeale for his entire amateur career leading up to the 2012 London Olympics.
The renewed relationship between Breazeale and Robles has been great and Breazeale is excited for his upcoming bout. Taking a break from training at the Rock Boxing Gym in Carson, California, Breazeale stated the following, "I am excited to be back in the gym and to be working with Manny Robles again. I am learning a lot and I'll be honest with you; Manny Robles and Edgar Jasso are teaching me what I have needed to work on which was better technique, footwork and pushing me in the gym everyday."
"This is the seventeenth fight of my career and I only have a few years to get to where I want to be and that is to become the heavyweight champion of the world. Making this coaching change now is something that needed to be done and I look forward to reaching the pinnacle of my career with Manny Robles as my trainer," said Breazeale.
Manny Robles is excited to be working with Breazeale as well and stated the following: "I'm very happy to be working with Dominic again and things are coming along well in camp. Dominic is fighting a legitimate south paw and this is his toughest fight to date. I'm satisfied with his progress thus far and pleased with how things are coming along in camp. Although it's been three years since I've trained him, it feels like we haven't missed a beat."
This has been one of Breazeale's best training camps of his career. Breazeale is learning a great deal from Robles and continues to work with strength and conditioning coach Sean Martinez in preparation for his upcoming bout against Charles Martin. Breazeale is very familiar with Martin as they both came up through the same amateur program.
"I know Charles very well and so does my trainer. We worked side by side for years in the same amateur program but I'm definitely not the same fighter I was back then. In the last three years, I have gotten so much better as a professional and my record speaks for itself. I believe I have fought tougher opposition than Charles and I am definitely more experienced and that will show come December 12th," said Breazeale.
"I have a ton of respect for Charles, but he is just another opponent I have to beat in order to keep climbing the rankings and taking a crack at the top ten heavyweights in the division. I believe he is ranked #2 in the WBO behind Wladimir Klitschko and beating Charles gets me a step closer," said Breazeale.
When Robles was asked about Breazeale's upcoming bout with Charles Martin he said, "Obviously, I believe Dominic has all the tools to defeat Martin via decision or knockout. Dominic is ready to go the distance and he is coming along well day by day, following the game plan and working hard to get better. He's a heavyweight but trains like a welterweight and that has a lot to say about Dominic. Most heavyweights do not train or work as hard as guys in the lighter weight classes but Dominic is extremely dedicated to getting better and working hard and it will be evident on December 12th."
