Diego Chaves Back on February 15th in Buenos Aires

By Elisinio Castillo

Diego "La Joya" Chaves (22-1, 18 KOs), the former interim-welterweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), will return to the ring after nearly seven months of inactivity on the 15 of February at estadio del Club Jacobo Urso in the city of Saladilla, a province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He will face experienced Juan Alberto "Maravilla" Godoy (31-13-1, 10 KOs) for the vacant Latin IBF welterweight title. The event is being promoted by OR Promotions and will be televised live on TyCSports.

Chaves returns from a knockout loss in the tenth assault against Keith Thurman, which took place on the 27th of July at the AT & T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Even in losing he had a good showing against Thurman, that was just a vicious body shot that took him out of it, he will be back and accumulate some good wins I think.
I don't think GBP ever had him under contract. I wouldn't mind seeing him back in the United States against somebody like Porter. Or maybe Top Rank could sign him. Abregu vs Chaves anyone? The poor man's Matthysse vs Maidana.
…
