Promoter Lou DiBella was delighted with the recent news that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) was willing to entertain a possible fight against middleweight king Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs) - at the catch-weight of 150-pounds. In an earlier report on BoxingScene.com, Mayweather discussed his willingness to fight Martinez - if the middleweight champion can make 150.

"If Sergio Martinez can make 150, we can make the fight, absolutely. There are no excuses. If he can make 150, lets make it happen. I'm a little bit different from the other guys. I think he has a very, very impressive style," Mayweather said.

Contrary to some reports, a member of Team Mayweather advised BoxingScene that Floyd's comments about Martinez were in reference to a "fight down the line" and not for Mayweather's already scheduled return date of May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather's full focus in on Manny Pacquiao, but "anything can happen." Martinez himself is scheduled to fight on March 17th against Matthew Macklin at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

"It's a huge fight. It's a fan's fight. Sergio can come down to 150, and the reason that I've been holding off on the talk of 168 - is because at his age [37 in February], Sergio has recast his body. He's walking around at 160 and the low 160s. He's a little middleweight right now. We have to sacrifice to make 150. Can he make 150? Absolutely! He would do it for Mayweather. Sergio thinks Mayweather is the best fighter in the world. He thinks the ultimate challenge in boxing is to fight Mayweather. Sergio not only thinks Mayweather is the best fighter in the world, he thinks he's an all-time great. If Sergio had one dream in the world, it would be to fight Mayweather," DiBella said to BoxingScene.com.
