| DiBella: Ishida is One of Several Names in The Running
|
|
By Michael Marley Lou DiBella, promoter of middleweight king Sergio Martinez, confirmed a recent newsbreaker that appeared on BoxingScene.com. DiBella notes that exciting Japanese slugger Nobuhiro Ishida, who floored James Kirkland three times en route to an upset first round TKO last Saturday night in Las Vegas, is in the running for a fall fight against the menacing Martinez. DiBella does make it clear that Ishida is only "one name of several" which the veteran promoter provided on a list submitted to HBO for approval. "I've just given HBO a few names but anything else is premature," DiBella said. "I like Ishida. He's one of the names I submitted. He is exciting and, in beating Kirkland the way he did, he beat a guy who so many people considered a beast." DiBella said such a fight would have to take place in the United States rather than Japan. An Ishisda-Martinez fight figures to be brief but possibly spectacular. "While he continues to fight with opponents who have no chance of winning, and I continue to fight against the best - one day I will . Because I know that I have to face reality that it's almost impossible [to fight him] given the height and weight. It makes more sense to go after fights with Mig... |

[QUOTE=bojangles1987]But there are so many better options than this. Why are Martinez's people talking about Manfredo and Ishida instead of talking about Pirog or Sturm or Cintron or a third fight with Williams or Angulo, etc, etc. If none of those guys want it, then at least he tried, but he sho... |

So many people are talking about who Martinez is going to fight but no one is talking about who don't want to fight him. I'm sure he would fight Floyd/Cotto/Pac/Margarito..... and whoever else can bring him the exposure and money he needs. Dude had 4 fights against 4 legit opponents. How can a... |

I think they should give Brian Vera a shot. He's coming off of the best win of his career and he's TV friendly. |
