DiBella: Andre Berto is on Course To Face Victor Ortiz

By Rick Reeno

According to promoter Lou DiBella, Andre Berto (28-1, 22KOs) is on course to fight Victor Ortiz (29-3-2, 22KOs) in a welterweight rematch on June 23rd, likely at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Last April, the two boxers produced one of the most exciting fights of the year. The rematch was scheduled for February 11th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but Berto suffered a left bicep injury and the fight was postponed.

During the last few days, rumors have begun to circulate that Berto's recovery might take a little longer than expected, which DiBella denies.

"Andre Berto is on course to face Ortiz. He could fight prior to the end of June if he had to. I spoke to his team, I spoke to Al [Haymon], I spoke to his trainer - there is no truth to any of these rumors. He's doing fine. His progress is on schedule and he'll be ready to fight," DiBella told BoxingScene.com.

He better be ready. This rematch needs to happen. And with Gamboa-Rios looking like it's going down the tubes, we didn't need another potential FOTY cancelled.
