As predicted on Boxingscene.com earlier in the week, a battle between Liverpool's Derry Mathews and Hull's Tommy Coyle has been confirmed.
The Commonwealth lightweight bout will take place on July 13 in Coyle's hometown of Hull, which features the pro debut of another one of its favorite sons, Olympic Gold medalist Luke Campbell.
Mathews, 32-8-2 (17), is coming off a torrid draw with Anthony Crolla — he defeated "Million Dollar" by sixth-round TKO last year to derail the Mancunian's title charge and the rematch took place in Liverpool last month — and the 29-year-old former British champion will present Coyle, 15-1 (6), with his stiffest test to date.
The 23-year-old Coyle is now working with former British, Commonwealth and European light-middleweight champion Jamie Moore and he warmed up for the clash by beating Jay Morris via a fourth-round TKO at Blackpool's Winter Gardens on Saturday night.
