According to Russian promoter Vladimir Hrunov, the handlers behind World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder have approached him about the availability of Alexander Ustinov for a fight in July.

Wilder was scheduled to face Ustinov's countryman, Alexander Povetkin, on May 21 in Moscow. The fight was postponed when Povetkin tested positive for a banned substance in a pre-fight drug test.

Now Wilder's handlers are searching for a new opponent with their boxer pushing to enter the ring as soon as possible.

Ustinov would be the first opponent for Wilder who is physically bigger and a bit taller. Wilder holds the advantage in speed and boxing ability.

"Today I received a call from Wilder's representative and inquire about availability of Alexander Ustinov for a fight in July. We are ready for this fight. I asked them to send a written proposal. They are considering three candidates - Chris Arreola, Bermane Stiverne and Ustinov," said Hyrunov, who in the past promoted and managed Povetkin for many years.

Ustinov has another option, to fight Luis Ortiz for the WBA's interim title. The two sides reached an agreement in principle, but Hryunov says the details have yet to be finalized.

30-year-old Wilder became the WBC champion in 2015. He is undefeated in 36 fights and 35 of them have ended by knockout. He is also a bronze medalist of the 2008 Olympic Games. 39-year-old Ustinov, in the last fight on December 12 of last year, knocked out German trialhorse Konstantin Airich. He has a record of 33 wins (24 by KO) and one defeat.
