Dennis Hogan: record, next fight and profile →
WBC Middleweight Champion Jermall Charlo received extra motivation last Tuesday with the birth of his daughter Journi, as he nears his title defense against Dennis Hogan live on SHOWTIME Saturday, December 7 from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™, as he headlines a Premier Boxing Champions event.
NEW YORK – It wasn’t just that they were presented with another world title fight. Dennis Hogan had to move up from 154 pounds to 160, according to his promoter, because junior middleweights weren’t exactly eager to box him once they saw how much trouble Hogan gave Jaime Munguia. Hogan lost a majority decision to Tijuana’s Munguia on April 13 in Monterrey, Mexico, but plenty of observers believe Hogan did enough to win their 12-round fight for Munguia’s WBO junior middleweight title.
NEW YORK – There is a large faction of fans and media that think Dennis Hogan beat Jaime Munguia six months ago. Hogan lost a 12-round majority decision to Tijuana’s Munguia on April 13 in Monterrey, Mexico, but he won over observers that watch him give Munguia a much tougher fight than his underdog status suggested. Jermall Charlo couldn’t care less about Hogan’s outing against Munguia, the unbeaten but defensively deficient WBO junior middleweight champion.
Ronnie Shields, head trainer for WBC middleweight world champion Jermall Charlo, has warned that they are not training for a distance fight. Charlo will make a voluntary defense of his title against highly-ranked contender Dennis Hogan on Saturday, December 7, in a Showtime televised main event from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The challenges Charlo insists he wants haven’t materialized, though, thus he’ll remain busy by boxing an opponent whom many maintain should’ve been crowned a 154-pound champion after his last fight against Jaime Munguia. Nevertheless, Charlo claims he is the fighter to beat in a deep division that also includes Canelo Alvarez, assuming he returns to it after facing WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, as well as IBF/IBO champ Gennadiy Golovkin, WBO champ Demetrius Andrade and Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
