Denis Lebedev Crushes Shawn Cox in Two Round KO

By Alexey Sukachev, at ringside

Crocus City Arena, Moscow, Russia - Denis Lebedev (24-1, 18KOs) knocked out Shawn Cox (16-2, 15KOs) in two rounds to retain his WBA interim-cruiserweight title. Cox was swinging from the start and landed two big punches to push Lebedev back. A left cross from Cox shook Lebedev's legs. In the second, it was Lebedev who started landed big punches to shake Cox up. A counter-hook sent Cox down hard on his backside and he was unable to beat the count.

----------

In a stylistic nightmare for both boxers, highly ranked Russian Alexander Bakhtin (29-0, 11 KOs) acquired the vacant WBA international super bantamweight title after a dull and uneventful decision over former WBA 118lb interim titleholder Nehomar Cermeno (20-5-1, 12 KOs), ranked #11 by the WBA.

Scores were: 119-109 (Giuseppe Quartarone and Andrey Baliasov) and 117-111 (Philippe Verbecke) - for WBC #4, WBA #5 and IBF #12 Bakhtin. BoxingScene saw it 118-110. Referee was Ingo Barrabas. There were no knockdowns.

----------

Quick and elusive American journeyman Jonte Willis (8-3-1, 3 KOs) delivered a boxing lesson to slow and unfocused Russian veteran Denis Bakhtov (34-7, 23 KOs) only to be held to a controversial eight-round split decision loss. Scores were: 78-75, 78-74 and 75-78 - for Bakhtov. Bitterly disappointed, Willis still danced for the local fans afterwards. BoxingScene scored the fight for Willis: 77-75.

----------

In a hard and close battle, "Russian Gatti" Oleg Liseev (4-1, 2 KOs) outfought previously undefeated Artur Akavov (5-1) to a split decision victory over eight rounds. Akavov was down in the fourth and was deducted a point in round six but otherwise gave fits to his opponent.

----------

Russian lightweight Eduard Troyanovskiy improved to 10-0, with 7 KOs, after a workmanlike unanimous decision over Belarussian Evgueny Kruglik (10-15-3, 2 KOs) in a six-rounder.
I doubt, Tarver still can school Lebedev. they just make$ and try to bring some boxing into Russia. too bad real fans won't pay attention, until they make real fights
Yeah, Tarver will make Lebedev serve detention......

Anybody surprised by this result? Lebedev's promoters need to get him off the golden oldies tour and into a title fight
