A fight between WBC lightweight world champion Antonio DeMarco (27-2-1, 20KOs), and countryman Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (22-0, 20KOs), could be scheduled for this coming July in cancun, according to the champion's coach, Romulo Quirarte.
DeMarco was scheduled to fight Jorge Linares in a July rematch in Los Angeles, but a few weeks ago Thompson tore those plans apart by stopping Linares in two rounds.
"The fact that Thompson defeated Jorge Linares might be a surprise to many, since the Venezuelan was viewed as the favorite, but it wasn't a surprise for us. We now see him as a worthy challenger. We will speak with [promoter] Gary Shaw to determine the next move for Antonio. Thompson is a great opponent, respectable, solid and dangerous," the coach said.
