DeMarco Not Happy, Unsure if Molina Fight Happens

By Ryan Burton

Late Saturday night, BoxingScene.com first reported that the July 21st fight between WBC
lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco and Daniel Estrada had been called off. The fight was scheduled to take place in Rosarito, Mexico and was going to be televised by Televisa.

BoxingScene has been advised that Demarco's promoter Gary Shaw didn't sign a release to allow his fighter to appear on the card in Mexico. With a fight scheduled against John Molina Jr. on September 8th on HBO it appears that his promoter didn't want to risk DeMarco losing or suffering an injury and not being able to follow through with the more lucrative HBO fight.

BoxingScene spoke with the usually mild mannered DeMarco to get his take on the situation.  The Mexican fighter said that he was very upset that the Estrada fight wasn't taking place.

"I wanted to fight in Mexico.  Its sad that my promoter didn't sign the release because I wanted to fight in front of my people," DeMarco explained.

He then dropped a bombshell and said that he isn't sure if he still will go through with the Molina fight.

"I am going to think about what is going to happen next," DeMarco told BoxingScene.com.

The DeMarco versus Molina fight has been labeled as a possible Fight of the Year candidate by many boxing pundits. Both men have plenty of power and both fight with heart and determination.  DeMarco didn't even want to speak about the upcoming match up.

"I don't want to comment on Molina. I'm not happy with the recent development regarding Estrada. I don't know what I'm going to do," DeMarco revealed.

DeMarco is clearly frustrated and said that he needs time to think over the recent turn of events and will decide his course of action soon.

"I'm not happy with Gary Shaw and I am going to decide about the Molina fight in the near future."

DeMarco won his title in dramatic fashion last year with an 11th round knockout of Jorge Linares in a fight in which he was badly trailing on the scorecards.
