De La Hoya Sees Cotto, Kirkland For Canelo's Future

By Salvador Rodriguez

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is looking at some very big options for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs) - if the Mexican superstar defeats WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Canelo is already booked to return in the fall. A fight with Miguel Cotto, returning in December, is unlikely, but James Kirkland (32-1, 28KOs) could be a possibility, says De La Hoya.

"There are different possibilities. A fight that everyone would like to see is against Miguel Cotto, if not this year then next year [that fight] will be ideal, but there are guys like Kirkland who is dangerous. [If Canelo wins on] Saturday, then we'll sit with Chepo [Reynoso], his team and discuss the future," said Oscar.

Canelo would knock Kirkland out. Kirkland has no defense, is chinny, and is a slow starter. He took a lot of shots from Tapia in the first round of their fight. Canelo would end things in the first round.

Both fights would be pretty badass regardless of how bad Lara wrecks him ;)

[QUOTE=Vicious.;14743899]If ( and that's a big if) canelo beats lara then those fights would be hyped up. I can see canelo outboxing kirkland like Molina (minus all the clinching ) if that happens I see canelo having enough experience to…
