De La Hoya Sees Bigger PPV Numbers For Canelo-Lara

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya expects better numbers for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's second pay-per-view fight as an A-side headliner. Back in March, Canelo returned after his decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., and stopped Alfredo Angulo. The Showtime Pay-Per-View generated 350,000 buys, which Golden Boy and Showtime saw as a very successful number.

On July 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Canelo will headline another Showtime Pay-Per-View, against WBA 'regular' champion Erislandy Lara.

"It's very interesting, because you have to take into account that [his fight with Angulo] was the first fight where he was the star attraction on pay-per-view and sold that many houses, it was awesome. I remember my first fight as a headliner on pay-per-view, I reached 250,000 homes, which made what Canelo did amazing - because it was against a fighter that lost to Lara and obviously this time we expect more homes," said De La Hoya told Carlos Narvaez.

I will wait till next week to see the fight cus GBP jipped us on the Angulo Canelo fight that was obviously a thrown fight. Canelo will be banned for quite some time till I'm sure the cash cow cinammon…
