MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Last December, Amir Khan (29-3, 19KOs) was scheduled to face then IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (26-2, 14KOs).

Khan withdrew from the title opportunity with Alexander to pursue what he believed was a likely fight with WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May. Things did not go as expected. Mayweather passed on Khan and instead faced Marcos Maidana.

Later tonight, Khan will step in the ring with Alexander.

Once again, Khan is a likely candidate to face Mayweather in May (provided Khan wins tonight).

This time around, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Khan, will have a "Plan B" in position - if his boxer is unable to land Mayweather.

There are ongoing talks, although nobody really knows the seriousness of them, for Mayweather to face Manny Pacquiao.

If Mayweather is no longer in the picture, then De La Hoya would explore a possible UK blockbuster between Khan and heated domestic rival Kell Brook (33-0, 22KOs), who holds the IBF welterweight crown.

"If the Manny fight happens [with Mayweather] then great. Then we move on to Plan B with Amir - if he wins on Saturday night. And that Plan B, just thinking off the top of my head - is maybe Kell Brook at Wembley Stadium and fill it with 100,000 people. That would be a great event. There's options, you just have to be creative," De La Hoya said.
