Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya believes former four division world champion Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33KOs), 35-years-old, can still compete at the highest level of the sport.

The loss was Cotto's first since December 2012 loss to Austin Trout. After that loss, Cotto hired Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach and created a three fight win streak with a historical title win over Sergio Martinez. The knockout of Martinez gave Cotto the distinguished accomplishment of being the first boxer from Puerto Rico to capture four world titles in four weight divisions.

Cotto still has two fights remaining on his very lucrative promotional contract that he signed earlier this year with Roc Nation Sports.

"I strongly believe Miguel Cotto has a lot to give to the sport. He proved it tonight against a young guy who is 25-years-old. I mean, Canelo fought a terrific fight against a terrific fighter. Cotto should not walk around with his head down. He should be proud of his performance. he did an excellent job. Cotto can go up against anybody. He can become world champion once again. He still has a lot left in the tank," De La Hoya said.
