Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is rebuilding his company after parting ways with manager/adviser Al Haymon.
Two weeks ago, the two sides reached a financial agreement, which was tied in with De La Hoya's legal settlement with former company CEO Richard Schaefer - and Haymon, who has around 150 fighters under contract, walked away from Golden Boy with an army of fighters - including Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner, Keith Thurman, Errol Spence, Deontay Wilder, Marcos Maidana, Robert Guerrero, and many others.
De La Hoya's company signed a dozen new fighters two weeks ago, but by far their biggest acquisition was Friday's announcement that deal was finalized to co-promote dangerous middleweight David Lemieux (33-2, 31KOs) of Canada.
"Let me just tell you one thing [regarding all of those fighters that left Golden Boy]. Having David Lemieux here with us, at Golden Boy Promotions.....I would take one David Lemieux than ten of those fighters that left us any day," De La Hoya said.
De La Hoya then explained why Lemieux was such a valuable commodity for Golden Boy.
"He's a good looking fighter and that's a plus. He's a good looking fighter who can fight. A real fighter. We're going to look at strategies to attract more women. It's a exciting because you have such a marketable fighter like Lemieux and you can do a lot of different big fights. But also outside the ring, with marketing, we're going to be thinking outside the box. Its not going to be very difficult to sell a Lemieux ticket," De La Hoya said.
