Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is busy promoting the biggest fight of 2017 in Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez v Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin for the WBC, IBF, IBO and WBA ‘Super’ World Middleweight Titles.

The match-up between two of the best fighters in the world is set for September 16th, live on HBO Pay-Per-View. ‘Golden Boy’ recently kicked off a three city press tour which ran through London, New York City and Los Angeles.

Negotiations between the two camps have been well publicised and took a long time. When asked about the difficulty in putting the fight together the former six-weight World Champion gave an honest assessment.

“The [negotiations] weren’t stressful, it’s all in the detail,” he told iFL TV. “One hurdle was the weight. We were waiting for Canelo to move up to Middleweight. This fight is perfectly timed. Golovkin is at his peak, Canelo is at his all-time high.”

“The timing is perfect for Canelo v GGG. Mexican Independence Weekend, it’s going to be the biggest fight this year!”

Another big event also in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor, was recently announced for August 26th. When asked whether it would impact this fight’s success, De La Hoya was assured:

“No not at all, most important is the fight. We have a real fight against two real fighters! Two boxers who will generate action like no other fight has.”

“Who knows we might even do a second one, this is the type of event that call for trilogies. When you think about Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, that great trilogy. When you think about Marco Antonio Barrera v Erik Morales. This is exactly what boxing is all about. It’s about even fights,” he added.
