MGM Grand Casino & Hotel, Las Vegas, Nev. - BoxingScene.com caught up with Golden Boy chief Oscar De La Hoya shortly after Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan made their Grand Arrivals to officially kick off fight week at the MGM Grand.
De La Hoya is very confident that the promotion will do a big number on pay-per-view despite the recent trend of pay-per-view numbers declining.
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, the two biggest pay-per-view stars of this era, both saw their numbers decrease to reportedly under 500,000 buys each for their most recent fights. That is of course after their May 2nd, 2015 mega-fight broke every record imaginable and sold an astonishing 4.6 million units.
The face of Golden Boy is no stranger to posting strong pay-per-view numbers himself and when asked if he believed Canelo-Khan would do better numbers than Pacquiao's most recent fight, he said without hesitation.
"Easily. Absolutely with no problem. Every rating that we are getting on the 24/7 and the Face Off we are doubling what we did for Cotto. Those are great indications and we are expecting huge numbers for this fight," De La Hoya told BoxingScene.com.
De La Hoya of course was referring to HBO's pay-per-view preview shows 24/7 and Face Off and it should be noted that the Cotto-Alvarez clash is reported to have sold about 900,000 units.
Canelo-Khan takes place this coming Saturday night.
