Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is confident that a rematch between Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) and IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) will come off.

The two boxers first collided back in September, with the fight going to a controversial twelve round split draw.

De La Hoya, who promotes Canelo, expects the rematch will come off, as both sides are getting close to a deal.

"Canelo is the one who is driving the car, everything is going forward. That fight I'm sure will happen," De La Hoya said.

De la Hoya is very happy with how the year played out, and expects an even bigger year in 2018.

"I think 2017 was a nice lead-in to what 2018 has in store for us. 2017 was great. We were able to make Canelo vs. Golovkin, which, I mean, no one in their right mind ever thought we could make that fight happen,"  De La Hoya told Forbes.

"The beautiful thing about that fight was that I was telling everybody all along, 2017 is the year that Canelo and Golovkin are going to fight and it happened."

The Golden CEO is also expecting a bigger year for his company's television deal with ESPN.

At the start of 2017, Golden Boy announced a multi-year deal with ESPN - where De La Hoya's company would supply boxing content to ESPN 2 and ESPN Deportes.

"We had a great run with ESPN, we have a long-term contract with them, I'm excited for all our top prospects that we're promoting. 2018 is going to be a big year for us once again. Golden Boy Promotions is in this for the long-haul, we're doing what we do best, and that is building fighters, get them to that championship level and hopefully we'll find a few pay-per-view stars here and there," De La Hoya said.
