There are those who believe that the disappointing nature of the May 2nd bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao - which quite frankly over-promised and under-delivered - has had a negative effect on the rest of boxing as it relates to the pay-per-view aspect of the business.
While 4.4 million bought that fight, very few came away satisfied with what they saw that night. And with that, discontent and distrust of future boxing events from the casual fans.
But Oscar De La Hoya, the head of Golden Boy Promotions, which is co-promoting the November 21st showdown between Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto, predictably has a different spin on this.
"I think it had a positive affect for the career of Saul, for this fight, because people are anxiously waiting for a real fight,"said 'the Golden Boy' on Thursday afternoon at the House of Boxing in San Diego, where Alvarez staged a media day.
"People are very disappointed (with Mayweather-Pacquiao), it was a dud, no doubt about it. It was the dullest fight I've probably seen in the last I don't know how many years."
"So people want to see a real fight, they'll see one on November 21st."
