DAVID PRICE is planning to take a leaf out of comeback king Dereck Chisora’s book on Saturday.
Chisora has bounced back from defeat at the hands of David Haye to claim four successive wins and move right into the world title mix.
Now his fellow heavyweight Price is planning to do the same after two knockouts at the hands of American Tony Thompson last year.
He begins what he hopes will be a successful return to the big time when he meets German-based Kazakhstan bruiser Konstantin Airich in Stuttgart on Saturday.
Price is now being promoted by German group Sauerland and has a new trainer in the shape of American Tommy Brooks.
Brooks is vastly-experienced and has been in the corner for the likes of Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield.
Price said: “I am doing things properly with a top trainer and a top promotional outfit and I have got every faith that I can still achieve what I set out to achieve in the first place.
Price, 30, is full of confidence and said: “We’ve seen what can happen. Dereck Chisora has shown his to comeback from a devastating loss.
“I am fully aware that in two or three fights I can be in a similar position. I’m not doing this half-heartedly and dipping my toe back in to see how it goes.”
“Last year was a write off and I am just looking forward to performing and showing the last two performances do not reflect me as a fighter.
“I am calm and relaxed and I aim to make the most of this fight by putting myself right back on the path towards a world title.”
Saturday’s contest is an eight-round affair with Price, so used to topping the bill, fighting early in the evening in front of a sparse crowd ahead of the main event.
But that can be more of a help than a hindrance with Price saying: “I am not, for once, the main event.
“Although the fight will be live on BoxNation, I am fighting out of the way and on a card when I am not the top of the bill.
“It is less of an occasion, although the fight is more important than any other fight because I know I need to get back to where I was.
“I am looking forward to trading punches and getting my arm raised because it feels like forever since I last won a fight. I love that feeling of being a winner.”
PRICE v Airich is live on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546) on Saturday at 6pm. Visit www.boxnation.com to subscribe.Tags: David Price
