According to Camille Estephan from Eye of The Tiger Management, former IBF middleweight world champion David Lemieux will be moving up to the super middleweight division.

David Lemieux was convinced he’d be Canelo Alvarez’s next opponent. Once Lemieux’s left hook knocked out Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan in the first round September 15, the former IBF middleweight champion assumed he was in perfect position to challenge the Mexican superstar. Alvarez edged Gennady Golovkin to win a majority decision in their rematch that night in Las Vegas and Lemieux, like Alvarez, is promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s company.

David Lemieux’s continuous troubles making 160 pounds probably cost him a shot at Canelo Alvarez. Lemieux suffered from severe dehydration Friday morning, before he was scheduled to weigh in for a 10-round middleweight match on the Alvarez-Rocky Fielding undercard Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Lemieux was taken to a Manhattan hospital and the Lemieux-Johnson bout was removed from what was a 10-bout card, according to a report by Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, also a member of DAZN’s broadcasting team.

Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (40-4, 34 KOs) will be looking to pull off a very big knockout victory against Tureano Johnson (20-2, 14 KOs) in the scheduled 12-round co-main event on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event will be headlined by WBC, WBA middleweight world champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs), who moves up to the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds to challenge WBA "regular" super middleweight world champion Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs).

Almost a year after suffering a lopsided loss to him, David Lemieux has an even worse opinion of Billy Joe Saunders. Lemieux wants a rematch with Saunders, who impressively out-boxed the knockout artist from Montreal last December 16, because Lemieux claims a shoulder injury sustained during training camp hindered him during their 12-round, 160-pound title fight. In hindsight, Lemieux believes he should’ve postponed the Saunders fight to allow the torn labrum in his left shoulder to heal.

The bout will be the co-feature to the super middleweight main event, as Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) will move up in weight to challenge WBA "regular" world champion Rocky Fielding (27-1- 0, 15 KOs).
