According to a report in The Mirror, former two division champion David Haye (28-3, 26 KOs) is set to team up with Cuban trainer Ismael Salas, who trained countless fighters but at the moment is best known for his work with WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares.
Haye, 36 years old, is plotting his comeback after suffering a shocking eleven round stoppage loss to rival Tony Bellew back in March.
During the fight, Haye ruptured his right Achilles, which eventually led to the bout being stopped. Haye was forced to undergo surgery following the fight.
Haye recently parted way with trainer Shane McGuigan, who was trained the boxer for his last three fights - since Haye began his comeback last January. Haye was previously trained by Adam Booth.
It was said that Haye broke away from McGuigan, because the young coach was urging him to retire from the sport - something the former champ was not willing to do.
"Whilst I am not quite in a position to be announcing my next opponent, my passion for the sport remains unwavered and desire to regain my heavyweight title is stronger than ever. Since focusing on my recovery I have enjoyed the benefit of time to sit and reassess my future plans," Haye said.
"Shane and I have come to the mutual decision that when I am ready to go back into full training camp, we will no longer be working together as boxer and coach. We remain good friends but both parties agreed moving forward we weren't right for each other."
Haye's next fight is potentially going to be a rematch with Bellew - based on the recent statements that were made by Bellew's trainer, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.
"For me, the biggest money fight out there, and the fight that the public seem to want to want the most, is the Haye rematch. It doesn't bring the world heavyweight title with it, which is of course a carrot in the other two options, but if Tony can beat Haye again, which I believe he can, he can fight for the world heavyweight title after that anyway," Hearn told Sky Sports.
