David Haye’s inability to secure a showdown with Lucas Browne for the WBA World title could benefit Germany’s Michael Wallisch.
The undefeated contender has told ranFIGHTING.de that is one of the fighters who has been offered terms for a fight against Haye at London’s O2 Arena on May 21 and it is now merely a matter of both sides agreeing to them should Haye push on with that option.
Indeed, BoxRec have already listed the bout. Although they do not always get it 100% their network of contributors benefit from insider information when adding a contest to their list of fights.
Haye recently revealed that he had lined someone up already, but was also hoping to tempt WBA World title-holder Lucas Browne into the ring. Browne has dismissed this notion, so if Wallish was the name in the frame he could be handed an opportunity to move up the heavyweight ratings should he spring an upset against the "Hayemaker".
Wallish motored to 16-0 (10 KOs) courtesy of a decision win over Ivica Bacurin in a WBO European heavyweight title defence on January 9th. The 30-year-old German won the belt by stopping Fabio Tuiach in two in July.
The 6’ 5’’ fighter would be taking a big step up in class if he were to get Haye, but now is the ideal time for him try to make his mark in a division that is starting to open up following Tyson Fury’s win over Wladimir Klitschko in November.
