Darleys Perez: record, next fight and profile →
Manchester’s Anthony Crolla hopes that the WBA will call for a rematch between him and Darleys Perez following last Saturday’s majority draw. Crolla (29-4-3, 11 early) challenged Perez (32-1-1, 20 KOs) for the WBA lightweight title at the Manchester Arena. Many in attendance thought he was a clear winner, especially after the Colombian titlist had two points deducted for low blows in rounds 11 and 12.
As previously reported, WBA Vice President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza will oversee an official scoring review of Saturday’s fight between WBA lightweight holder Darleys Perez (32-1-1, 20 KOs) and Manchester’s Anthony Crolla (29-4-3, 11 early), which took place at the Manchester Arena (formerly the MEN) and was shown live on Sky Sports here in the U.K.
Anthony Crolla’s dream shot at the WBA world lightweight title ended in bitter disappointment when his bout with champion Darleys Perez was scored a majority draw after 12 rounds despite the Manchester man appearing to have done enough to take the championship. One judge had Crolla a comfortable winner 116-111 but he was overruled by his colleagues who couldn’t spilt the pair carding 113-113 twice despite Perez having two points deducted for low blows. BoxingScene scored the contest 116-112 for Crolla who was emotional and bitterly disappointed when he spoke to the press.
Manchester’s Anthony Crolla could return to action in November as his promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, wants to swiftly arrange a rematch with Darleys Perez, who clung onto his WBA lightweight title after holding the Mancunian to a draw on Saturday night. Liverpudlian Derry Mathews is the mandatory challenger for Perez, but Crolla could be granted a return bout before the Colombian has to fulfil that obligation.
Anthony Crolla will pursue a rematch with Darleys Perez following their controversial draw in Manchester on Saturday night. Crolla and current WBA lightweight world champion Perez were on either side of a majority draw, despite the Colombian having two points taken off for illegal low blows in the contest's closing stages. Eddie Hearn, Crolla's Matchroom promoter, said afterwards that he feels the WBA should order an immediate rematch and that is something Crolla wants too, after a performance which he feels proves he belongs at world level.

Anthony Crolla says he knows he has to put in the performance of his life to take Darleys Perez’s WBA World Lightweight title from him on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena live on Sky Sports – and has promised his fans that he will deliver. Crolla had a January World title shot at Richar Abril cruelly taken from him when he was brutally attacked when interrupting burglars at his neighbour’s home in Chadderton in December, with the fractured skull and broken ankle destroying that fight.
Ricky Hatton believes fellow Mancunian Anthony Crolla is capable of pulling off a shock and taking Darleys Perez's WBA world lightweight title on Saturday night. In the same arena a decade ago, Hatton shocked Kostya Tszyu to snatch the IBF light-welterweight title and is adamant that 28-year-old Crolla has what it takes to emulate him. Crolla (29-4-2-KO11) has completed a remarkable recovery to move to within sight of fulfilling his dream. Late last year, he suffered a fractured skull and a broken ankle when attempting to tackle burglars near his home.
