Luis Sandoval catches up with WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno to discuss his upcoming debut in the United States against Vic Darchinyan.

Undefeated Abner Mares (22-0-1, 13 KOs) of Hawaiian Gardens, Calif., and challenger Joseph King Kong Agbeko (28-3, 22 KOs) of the Bronx, N.Y., both weighed in at 117.25 pounds Friday at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., just a day before their highly anticipated rematch tomorrow/Saturday, Dec. 3, on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHP BOXING live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

By Jake Donovan - All of the televised participants made weight for Showtime’s bantamweight doubleheader, which takes place Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. The main event features unbeaten titlist Abner Mares, who makes the first defense of his crown against the man he acquired it from, former two-time champ Joseph Agbeko. Both fighters came in at 117 ¾ lb, just under the bantamweight limit. In the co-feature, Vic Darchinyan vies for a title in a third weight class when he takes on Anselmo Moreno, who fights in the United States and on Showtime for the first time. Moreno (31-1-1, 11KO) came in at the bantamweight limit of 118 lb., while Darchinyan was slightly lighter at 117.75.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – In a potential candidate for Fight of the Year, unbeaten Abner Mares will defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Bantamweight Championship titles against former two-time IBF 118-pound champion Joseph King Kong Agbeko in the main event on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING this Saturday, Dec. 3, live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

LOS ANGELES – With just four days until their respective world championship showdowns on Saturday, Dec. 3, live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., all four fighters preparing for the World Championship Doubleheader participated in an open media workout at Westside Boxing Club in Los Angeles, Calif.

Many boxing fans recognize Anselmo Moreno as among the best bantamweights in the world. The problem he faces thus far, however, is that not many fans outside of his native Panama would recognize him if they saw him in the street. The long-reigning bantamweight titlist gets an overdue public profile upgrade this weekend, when he takes on former two-division champion Vic Darchinyan. The bout is perfectly placed as the co-feature to the hotly anticipated rematch to the Showtime Bantamweight finals between Abner Mares and Joseph Agbeko. Both bouts air on Showtime, live from the Honda Center in Anaheim (9PM ET/PT).

By Keith Idec Anselmo Moreno has lost just once in his nine years as a professional boxer. That defeat came in his eighth fight, a four-rounder in October 2002 against an opponent Moreno stopped in their rematch and beat again by unanimous decision. Vic Darchinyan still doesn’t think there’s anything special about Panama’s Moreno, the WBA’s super champion at 118 pounds. The confident Armenian slugger sees Moreno, a fellow southpaw, as a minor obstacle in his path toward rematches against Abner Mares or Joseph Agbeko, both of whom out-pointed Darchinyan in closely contested bantamweight title fights. “He’s a good fighter,” Darchinyan said of Moreno, who has won four of his last seven bouts by 12-round split decisions. “He’s not a warrior. He’s not coming to win the fight. He’s kind of a defensive fighter. He’s looking to win every round. He just wants to win the fight."

NEW YORK – Just one month out from the biggest fight of his life and his first in the United States, Anselmo “Chemito” Anselmo and his wife Rouss Laguna Moreno found out they are expecting twins.

SYDNEY - Vic Darchinyan has traded blows with a renowned warrior several divisions above him, as he prepares to fight the much taller Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno in a bantamweight boxing unification world title bout. IBO champion Darchinyan left Australia on Saturday bound for Los Angeles where he will continue his preparations for the December 3 clash with Panama's WBA Super title holder.
