Everything seemed fine for heavyweight Zoltan Petranyi to defend the UBO European title on his 45th birthday against former Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams on Sunday, June 10, at the Ramada Hotel in Budapest. Williams was in town, had worked out and appeared to be in good shape, weighed in and on the day of the fight and everything was ready.
However, at 2PM Williams called Zoltan and said he had fallen in the bathroom and was cut over the right eye. The supervisor of the show had the doctor from the Hungarian Federation inspect the cut and the doctor said Williams could still fight. Danny stated he had to think about it but later his trainer said the fight was on.
Zoltan Petranyi, who also promoted the show, had his hands wrapped and warmed up but 15 minutes before fight time he was told that Williams couldn´t fight after all.
Both entered the ring, Danny apologized, his right eyebrow covered, and said he would be back in September to fight Petranyi, who said he had spent months preparing for this fight and it would be his last and now has to do it all over again.
Williams floored Petrany five times in three rounds when they fought in Manchester back in 2005 but there´s been a lot of water under the bridge since then.
