Daniel Jacobs knows most media and fans figure Gennady Golovkin will tear through David Lemieux, but the WBA middleweight title-holder doesn’t think this will be an easy fight for the undefeated Kazakh knockout artist.

In fact, Jacobs wouldn’t be surprised if Lemieux pulls off an upset when they fight for Golovkin’s interim WBC and WBA (super) middleweight titles and Lemieux’s IBF championship Oct. 17 at Madison Square Garden (HBO Pay-Per-View). Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) has won 20 straight fights by knockout and is a 16-1 favorite over Montreal’s Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs).

“I think it’s a toss-up with the Triple-G fight,” Jacobs told BoxingScene.com following a press conference to announce his December 5 showdown with Peter Quillin at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (Showtime). “We know Lemieux has been stopped before, but he’s been looking really good lately. So that’s a toss-up.

“I think it’s a toss-up because both guys are strong, both guys come forward and we really haven’t seen Triple-G take a real shot from a hard middleweight, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can hold up. I’m sure he will, but I still think it’s going to be a toss-up fight. But I don’t think that fight goes the distance, absolutely not.”
