Danny Garcia To Brandon Rios: Are You Jealous of Me?

By Luis Sandoval

Current WBC Light Welterweight champion Danny Garcia is having a stellar year and is a Fighter of the Year candidate due to his victories over Amir Khan and Erik Morales this year. Garcia is currently preparing for a showdown in Brooklyn against Zab “Super” Judah on February 9th.

While Garcia informs his focus is only on Judah at the moment, he does realize there are a lot of fighters in or around his division that would love to fight him and have called him out. One fighter in particular is Bam Bam Brandon Rios. In an interview with BoxingScene correspondent Chris Robinson, Rios expressed he’d knock out Garcia and wasn’t impressed with his recent string of victories.

Boxingscene caught up with Danny Garcia and asked about his thoughts regarding what Rios had said.

“I mean every time I hear something it’s about Brandon Rios. Why he’s so worried about me? Is it something personal? Like what is it? [Are] you jealous? What is it? Because every interview he’s talking about me. I never did nothing to you” expressed the Philadelphia native.

A Garcia-Rios fight is definitely a fight that you’d find atop the list of most boxing fans of fights they’d love to see happen. Both fighters are undefeated and are exciting to watch. But as with many fights we’d love to see, the problem lies in the promotional feud between Golden Boy and Top Rank which is an obstacle that up until now hasn’t been able to be cleared by anyone.

“In reality we can’t fight because your promoter don’t want to. You can ask Richard Schaefer right now. ‘Richard can we make this fight happen’ and he’ll tell you it’s his promoter who don’t want to do it. So he’s just talking. He’s just talking but in reality it can’t even happen. At the end of the day he’s so worried about me, like why you so worried about my success? To me, it’s starting to make me feel like he’s jealous of me. You don’t see me ever talk about him. Never. I’m not worried about him, I’m doing me” Garcia would tell BoxingScene.

Garcia was in Los Angeles to participate in the Watson Family Charity Celebrity basketball game but will resume training this week when he returns back to Philadelphia.
