WBA/WBC junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16KOs) is not happy with Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32KOs) canceling his participation in a three city press tour. Golden Boy Promotions was planning a three city tour - with stops in Los Angeles, New York and Puerto Rico - to promote the fight. Garcia will make his mandatory defense against Matthysse in the co-featured fight to the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez pay-per-view on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“We could have been the headliner somehwere else, but it's great to be on an event as important as the one on September 14 - because it could mean a lot of exposure for my career. I didn't like the fact that Matthysse was giving excuses at the last minute not to do the tour. The plans were to go to New York, Puerto Rico and Los Angeles. We were ready to go when everything went down. I guess it's their way of doing things, but on September 14 they will see how I do things. We're taking our time with training and we'll have an intelligent strategy for September 14 so I can prove once again [how good of a] fighter I am," Garcia told Carlos Gonzalez.
