26-year-old lightweight prospect Dannie Williams (15-1) wants to avenge the only loss of his career which came against Eloy Perez (19-0-2) in September of 2009. Perez was dropped twice in the fight and Williams went down once himself.
Williams told BoxingScene.com that plans are in the works for him to fight for a regional title on April 14th at the Ameristar Casino which is located just outside of his native St. Louis. He is looking to have a busy 2011 as he said will be fighting on February 19th in Youngstown, OH and there are also ongoing discussions of him making an appearance on the Sergio Martinez-Sergei Dzinzurik undercard on March 12th.
Williams would like nothing more than for the homecoming fight to be a rematch versus Perez. Williams told BoxingScene, "I think Eloy is a great fighter and it was a great fight but I'm a competitor and would love to avenge my loss by fighting him again in the future for either a world title or number one spot."
Williams, who is trained by Jack Loew, feels that with a few adjustments he would be able to knockout Perez. "I knocked him down 2 times and lost but in all do respect it will only take one (knockdown) next time!"
Williams went on to say that if he can't get the Perez rematch in April that he would to fight him in the near future. Perez is scheduled to fight Luis Cruz on February in a WBO eliminator bout.
