Daniel Jacobs: record, next fight and profile →
By Keith Idec - Daniel Jacobs nearly paid dearly for not fighting with any sense of urgency against Gabe Rosado on Friday night. The former IBF and WBA middleweight champion didn’t deliver the punishing performance he promised against a trash-talking opponent who proved to Jacobs that he is better than Jacobs thought. Jacobs still managed to win a 12-round split...

Daniel Jacobs recognizes that he is expected to perform like a 25-1 favorite Friday night. The former IBF middleweight champion therefore feels as though anything less than a spectacular performance against Gabe Rosado will reflect poorly on him. Most boxing fans wanted Jacobs to face a top opponent in his second appearance as a full-fledged super middleweight, but Jacobs opted to settle a score with the trash-talking Rosado.
With nearly 15 years in the pro ranks and the losses beginning to pile up, Gabriel Rosado was able to recognize that changed were needed if he had any chance of extending his pro career. Depending on the viewpoint, Philadelphia’s Rosado is either at the make-or-break point or has long ago passed that threshold and merely serves as cannon fodder in present time. Naturally, the veteran gatekeeper believes he still has plenty to offer the sport, so much that the 34-year old is willing to endure the daily rigor that comes with left spent under the tutelage of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.
Gabe Rosado doesn’t hate Daniel Jacobs. The veteran super middleweight simply has taken exception to Jacobs’ comments about him. Philadelphia’s Rosado promised to make Jacobs pay for his perceived arrogance Friday night, when they’ll meet in a 12-round super middleweight match DAZN will stream as the main event of a five-fight card in Hollywood, Florida.
Daniel Jacobs wants a shot at Billy Joe Saunders’ super middleweight title next if they win their upcoming fights. Jacobs and Saunders are set to fight a week apart, thus they’re schedules would align perfectly for a bout sometime in the first half of 2021. The 33-year-old Jacobs also is the WBO’s third-rated contender for Saunders’ 168-pound championship, two spots below top-ranked Canelo Alvarez, Saunders’ primary target.
By Keith Idec - Assuming Daniel Jacobs beats another huge underdog Friday night, the former IBF middleweight champion will move himself into yet another profitable position. His lucrative contract with DAZN will conclude after he boxes Gabe Rosado, yet “The Miracle Man” still will have plenty of options once he and his team begin exploring his first fight of 2021. For a...

Daniel Jacobs’ weigh-in Thursday was a little less predictable and a lot less lucrative than the last time he had to step on the scale the day before a fight. Brooklyn’s Jacobs and Philadelphia’s Gabe Rosado met their contractual obligations without incident Thursday for their 12-round super middleweight match Friday night in Hollywood, Florida. Jacobs stepped on the Florida State Boxing Commission’s scale at 167.6 pounds, slightly lighter than Rosado, who officially weighed exactly 168 pounds.
Given the holiday season, Daniel Jacobs is a bit disappointed that Gabriel Rosado isn’t more thankful for what should be viewed as a generous ring opportunity. Years’ worth of trash talk between the two has resulted in a head-on collision that wasn’t particularly in high demand, though nevertheless takes place this weekend. Jacobs looks to continue his journey towards capturing another major title as he marks time in a grudge match with Philadelphia’s Rosado (25-12-1, 14KOs) this Friday on DAZN, live from a crowdless Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
