Former WBC super flyweight world champion Carlos Cuadras is siding with the underdog, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs), to beat their countryman Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) on May 6.
The biggest fight for Mexican boxing in several years was finalized last Friday. The contest takes place at a catch-weight of 164-pounds. Canelo will head up by 10.5-pounds and Chavez Jr. comes down from super middleweight by 3.5-pounds.
HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the contest and the venue has yet to be determined.
At the end of the day, Cuadras is hoping that we all get a very exciting contest and not a repeat of the Cinco De Mayo mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015.
"Sometimes the most anticipated fights are the most boring, like when Floyd Mayweather and Pacquiao took place. Everyone waiting for four years for that fight to happen and it was boring. I hope that does not happen with our fighters. Mexicans are the type to deliver and hopefully it's a great fight," Cuadras said.
There is a big size difference and Cuadras predicts "size will matter" when the two boxers step in the ring - as long as Chavez Jr, properly trains.
"I have a reserved prediction... it's difficult. Canelo has made a good run in his career, good fights. Chavez has the power in his hands and more weight. I'm going with Chávez, but I need to go to the gym and make sure that he's training every day to beat Canelo," Cuadras said.
"Chavez Jr. has to prepare very well for this fight. The truth is that he is bigger and he has a lot of weight on his side. It can be a factor that affects him after the second half of the fight... he may get tired, but I think Chavez can beat Canelo."
