In a recent radio interview in Mexico, super bantamweight contender Cristian Mijares (48-7-2, 23KOs) told the hosts that he is confident that a deal will be finalized to face WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15KOs) on November 2nd, likely at the StubHub Center in California. Mijares has already started training camp for the match. Mijares has held titles in multiple divisions and wants to reclaim that title that he felt he earned when Victor Terrazas won a close split decision over him. Santa Cruz battered Terrazas in three rounds to capture the title on August 24th.
The World Boxing Council made Mijares the mandatory challenger to the Santa Cruz-Terrazas winner, although Santa Cruz was granted permission from the WBC to make a voluntary defense on the November 2 date.
