Cristian Mijares Ready For Jonathan Perez Showdown

By Miguel Rivera

Former champion Cristian Mijares is ready for battle. He returns this Saturday in a ten round super bantamweight bout against Colombia's Jonathan Perez (19-8, 16 KOs). Mijares recently vacated his IBF super flyweight title to move up in weight. The fight will take place at Fair Zacatecas in Mexico and Televisa will broadcast the contest.

"I'm ready, obviously I have no weight problems and the fight will be at super bantamweight. I feel strong and I want prove to myself that I can do good things in this division. I want to get big fights with great fighters, and that's why I have prepared thoroughly," Mijares said.

"I believe that I can do a lot more in boxing. I can and I will keep fighting for great things. Right now I am working very hard. I'll give my best in order to secure a fight with a big name, like Abner Mares, Travieso Arce, Nonito Donaire. I want to be world champion in another division and I will achieve this. If things go as we hope maybe this great opportunity can happen this year."

Mijares vs Montiel at 122 would be interesting.
