Cousins Defy Family, Will Battle For Vacant WBC Title

On August 23rd at the Arena Roberto Duran, Leroy "The Sensacional" Estrada (12-1, 5KOs) and Carlos "Arañita" Ortega (9-3-2, 4KOs) will fight each other for the vacant WBC silver strawweight title.

There is only one catch - the two fighters are cousins.

Their family members tried their best to prevent the contest from happening - but the cousins came together and made a united decision to move forward with the fight.

At the official press conference, both fighters showed a lot of respect to each other, which reflects the family harmony.

"It pains me to fight with my cousin. Initially, we decided not to fight, but then many things happened and we are now one step closer to one of us becoming the silver champion," said Estrada, wistfully.

Meanwhile Ortega said: "Our family does not agree with us fighting, but the two of us discussed this issue because it's an opportunity that every boxer is looking for; to fight for a WBC title, and we hope our family understands that."

I don't see the problem. Machida fought his brother multiple times in Karate and Chinzo (brother) has some scars from Lyoto's kick IIRC.

[QUOTE=VanillaIce;14727167]Oscar de la hoya Also fought his cousin at one time, I don't remember his name. But there was bad blood between them, that's when oscar was a contender, before he became champion. I wish I can remember the name…

A few years back Japanese brothers fought for a Japanese title.

Wow, so the WBC has a guy that's 9-3-2 with 4 ko's fighting for a world title :nonono: this is just as bad as the 77th ranked lightweight fighting for the light welterweight belt, fuk you Sulaiman.

****ed up. It's like they are willing to kill family over boxing. Unless they just going to spar and not really go for it which will likely be the case.
