Former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 21KOs) does not rule out a potential fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs) in the future. Last Saturday Canelo demolished Alfredo Angulo for a tenth round stoppage win. Cotto is going up to the middleweight division to challenge WBC champion Sergio Martinez on June 7th.
Prior to accepting a deal to face Martinez, Cotto was offered $10 million dollars to face Canelo. Cotto wanted to fight Martinez for history, with a victory making him the first Puerto Rican boxer to win four world titles in four weight divisions. He says a fight with Canelo in the future will certainly be considered.
“The possibility of facing Álvarez was real. We had a meeting with Golden Boy Promotions in Los Angeles and there was an offer on the table. But for us it was more attractive to face Sergio Martínez at this moment in my career. If perhaps in the future a fight with Canelo will be presented for consideration, I will think about it again," Cotto told Carlos Gonzalez.
