At his training camp in Puerto Rico, WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs) issued a challenge to Floyd Mayweather Jr (39-0, 25KOs), the WBC titleholder. Speaking with Primera Hora, Cotto told Mayweather to stop making excuses and to give the boxing fans the fight they want most.
"When he decides to fight, he knows that we are ready, that Miguel Cotto is here. He has to stop making excuses and looking for other fights. He knows this is the fight that people want to see," Cotto said.
Cotto returns against Alfonso Gomez on April 12 in Atlantic City. Should he win, a July bout is in the works against the winner of the undercard bout between IBF champion Kermit Cintron and Antonio Margarito.
